Working for all the residents all the year round Learn more

Spenlow House is set to get a much needed redecoration after a successful campaign by local Liberal Democrat councillors.
Riverside ward councillors Anood Al-Samerai, Eliza Mann and Nick Stanton collected petition signatures over summer and wrote three times to Southwark’s Housing Director, calling on the council to ‘Give us a lick of paint!’.
They argued that with other internal works due to take place next year, the blocks should be decorated at the same time and using the same scaffolding – even though it was not part of the Labour council’s refurbishment programme.
The council has now written said that the block will be redecorated by mid-2013 to coincide with the other scheduled works.
In a joint letter to residents telling them the good news, the three councillors said:
“We are delighted to report that Southwark Council’s Director of Housing has now accepted the argument that Spenlow House is in desperate need of external redecoration.”
“This is fantastic news and thank you very much to all the residents who have helped us to achieve this progress.”
“Obviously, there is still a lot of work for local councillors to do to make sure that the work all goes ahead smoothly and the council keeps its promise. We will do all that we can to ensure that residents are fully and properly consulted about the works which will be going on and to make sure that leaseholders get value for money. The contracts have to be tendered so it sounds like work will be starting in about March 2013. We will monitor developments closely to make sure that we get the Spenlow lick of paint as soon as possible.”
