This week has seen the community in Southwark shocked by the ongoing revelations about local Labour councillors. A few months ago a Labour councillor in Peckham was convicted of housing benefit fraud. She has still not had the decency to resign despite calls from local residents for her to do so.

Last week the Labour councillor in Camberwell (who was responsible for community safety in the borough) was arrested for grooming an underage girl over the internet and has resigned.

And a third Labour councillor in East Dulwich was suspended a while ago, but Labour would not tell the public why. It has now been discovered by the press that he served a prison sentence in America and that guns and drugs were involved.

This is all very sad as it will make people think even less of politicians. It also worries me about Labour’s judgement and competence in running the council when they can’t even manage and select their council group properly.
